For Bismarck Bobcats fans, this season could be a rather lean year. That happens when you have a young team and you are not quite ready for the season to begin. Just like the head coach Layne Sedevie. Even though you win your home opener against the Minotauros 7-3, you split the weekend, and that has to be frustrating for the 12 year bench boss.
I have rather lofty goals for this team, so I’ve got to tell myself, be patient. Even though the Bobcats are 1-7, I have to remind myself this is October, it’s not March or April. I have to be careful what I say and do around the team. Just because you have a ring from another year, doesn’t mean you should flash it at people like Layne and new Assistant Coach Hunter Laslo. The Bobcats had 16 players who graduated to D1 last year, and only 6 or 7 players returning from last year’s group. So this year’s group is rather thin on experience. That’s why Layne is like the Bliss Littler of Bobcats hockey, because he is a veteran of coaching in the league and he knows what they need to be in the playoffs. The wins and losses are not easy to come by in this league, so when you get 1-0 at home, you want to keep building on your success. The next two games are in the home of the Aberdeen Wings, which is enemy territory. And it is a perfect building block for young kids who wear the Bobcat uniform.
