With Notre Dame in the rearview mirror, it was time to focus on the Salukis of Southern Illinois, coached by Dale Lennon. The Purdue Boilermakers had two choices on Saturday against the Missouri Valley team: either take them lightly and fall to 1-3 or show up and play a full four quarters to try and even up their record at two.
The Boilers came ready to give the Salukis all they could handle and more. Both the offense and defense of the Boilers game were working beautifully, and the Salukis could only manage 13 points. The Boilers scored a season-high 35.
The game was at Ross-Ade Stadium. Up next for the Boilers is a homecoming game with the Hawkeyes. The game is also the Big Ten opener. If Purdue should win, it would put them at 3-2 and 1-0 in the conference, which is something the Boilers haven’t been since 2011.
