The Legion of Doom defense for the Seattle Seahawks was unable to get to the Vikings main man, quarterback Sam Bradford, which allowed him time to execute the game plan even though the Vikings came up short under the Friday Night Lights of Seattle. There was much improvement by the Vikings offensive line this week as far as protection and opening holes for rookie running back Dalvin Cook.
In most areas of play, the Vikings would receive above average grades from this reporter, but I am giving them an overall grade of C-. When you let Russell Wilson have his way in moving the Seahawks offense down the field at will in the first half against your first team defense, thus giving up two touchdowns and 206 yards in passing, you will find yourself behind the eight ball. Throw in a couple of mistakes by the kickoff return team, a lost fumble, and hesitant return from the end zone, and you are playing right into the Seahawks strength.
The Vikings have only two more preseason tests remaining before Drew Brees and a former Vikings running back come to U.S. Bank Stadium on September 11th for the regular season opener. Coach Mike Zimmer and staff still have some things to clean up yet for the Purple, and we will see how the team responds going into their next preseason game against the San Francisco 49’ers this coming Sunday in a nationally televised game on NBC.
