On Sunday afternoon, it was time to crown the queen and king of basketball in North Dakota. Just as I thought, in women’s basketball, the Century Patriots were crowned queen for a record seventh time in the State of North Dakota. Ronald Metz is like the Michael Jordan of coaching, as he won his sixth championship as a coach. I would like to say congratulations on your sixth title, and Century’s seventh title overall. The Patriots are the Jimmie Johnson of women’s basketball. The thing that stood out to me was how Century went wire to wire all season long. There was little doubt as to who was number one in girl’s basketball. Some of the girls that were queen of the basketball court were also queen of the volleyball court. They were ready from the word go. I would like to give a heartfelt congratulations to the Fargo Davies Eagles on their second place finish, but for now, Century has the whole state seeing red, white, and blue.

The Minot Magicians made it almost all the way to the top of the state, before being packed away by the eventual champion West Fargo Packers. Congratulations to coach Dean Winczewski for leading the Minot boys almost to the top of the state. We would also like to congratulate Deonte Martinez on a great career with the Magic City Magicians, as he was named Senior Athlete of the Year. I’m sure Minot will find another Reggie Miller in their system. Knowing Winnie, I’m sure he will be back again. But for now, he will have to settle for number two.
