The Bismarck Bobcats have been battling the flu bug this week, and only eleven players were available for their Wednesday morning skate, only two days before they tangle with the last place NAHL Central St. Cloud Blizzard.
When I was waiting in the Bobcats lobby, two of the best coaches in the league approached their Sheriff, and I was told by Assistant Coach Garrett Roth that the player I wanted to interview was not available for my weekly meeting with the team. I quickly found out who was available, and decided to reel in Defenseman Carl Fish from St. Paul Minnesota. The recently turned 20 year old was nice enough to talk hockey with the Sheriff’s Patrol. When asked what his favorite part of playing defense was, he was quick to reply “dishing out hits to opposing team players”. This has been made clear by the 15 PIM he has accumulated in the 15 games he has played in so far this season, which I am sure we will see rise as the season progresses.
Fish also mentioned how much he enjoys playing in front of the loud VFW faithful Bobcat fans, and he also told us about the unity of this year’s team with their current 12-1-0-2 record and how everyone is on the same page playing as one big unit. Team unity is something you can expect when you have a veteran laden team as the Bobcats do this year.
We also talked about how “Fishy” was one of the only healthy “Cats” in the den. When we asked Assistant Coach Roth what was the reason for the absences, he was not able to give us an answer. We would like to extend get well wishes to the rest of the team as they prepare for another “melting” of the Blizzard this coming weekend at the Den for a two game series.
