For most of the night, the Indiana Pacers played sloppy basketball in their home game against the Chicago Bulls, leaving announcer and Hall of Fame Coach Bobby “Slick” Leonard to say to Miles Turner,”How many fouls like that are you going to get son?” You could clearly tell that “Slick” was not happy with the way the Pacers were playing, especially against the lowly Bulls, who entered the game with a 3-19 record.
The Bulls clearly outplayed the Pacers most of the game, leading 83-69 going into the fourth and final quarter. But then, the Pacers made a furious rally, outscoring the Bulls 29-13 in the last quarter, to end up with a 98-96 victory at Bankers Life Field House. Number 4 Victor Oladipo led the Pacers, scoring 27 points for the evening.
Oladipo should be called “Reggie” Oladipo, because without him the Pacers would have experienced one of their most demoralizing defeats at the hands of the Bulls. That probably would have brought “Slick” over the announcer’s table and on to the court to give his opinion on what he had just witnessed. Fortunately that did not happen and “Slick” was able to remain seated next to play by play announcer Mark Boyle where he issued those famous words to every Pacers fan “Boom Baby” after Mr. Oladipo nailed a three point attempt with 31.1 seconds left to give the Pacers their first lead of the game at 97-96.
