Bismarck, North Dakota – On Thursday night, jeremiahboyce.com had a chance to sit down with Chad Berger and Ben Jones to talk a little bit about the PBR. Chad Berger is a native of Mandan, North Dakota and he owns Chad Berger Bucking Bulls. We asked Mr. Berger how he cares for a bull and he said that he and his hired men feed the animals corn, oats, and hay. We asked him why he doesn’t participate in the sport anymore and Berger stated “It’s a young man’s sport. It’s too hard to get away from bulls now, I am not as quick to react.” Chad Berger stated there will be 6 members of the Peace Garden State in the PBR this weekend. There will be a total of 40 bullriders and the winners are determined by who gets the highest score on two bulls. The next question we were curious about was how the PBR sets up its schedule, and Chad’s answer was “We wait for hockey, football, and basketball schedules to come out because we use their arenas when they are on the off season.” Chad’s record was top 10 for many years. When dealing with the bulls the cowboys hang on with rope with one hand and feet on spurs for balance. The bulls travel all over the United States including California, Montana, Oregon, and North Dakota. When asked how Chad makes revenue he said he transports the bulls around. What Mr. Berger likes most about the rodeo is the camaraderie. Now lets meet one of the bull riders. He’s originally from down under and resides in Dallas, TX, he is a 13 year veteran, and he is a 2009 and 2010 runner-up in the Bismarck PBR. His name is Ben Jones and he is never afraid of anything. Mr. Jones has an intensive training regimen which includes: bike riding, swimming, and riding bulls twice per week. Before he became a member of the PBR, he was also a 2x boxing champion at the Junior level. His favorite part of the PBR is the noise from the fans and the adrenaline rush. Bull riding is a very dangerous sport. Mr. Jones has seen the ugly side of bull riding including the death of two of his friends. He has also suffered injuries including a punctured lung and 2 broken legs and has had face reconstruction surgrey twice. After round 1 in the Bismarck PBR, Pancho Limas is the top rider followed by Zac Peterson, Justin Granger, Dusty LaBeth, Kasey Hayes and Ben Jones. Bull riding goes from January 20th to October 28th with the season ending in Las Vegas, NV.
