On Sunday afternoon the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were looking to go 2-0 starting this NFL season, but the Minnesota Vikings had other ideas for the Bucs. Tampa Bay’s quarterback Jameis Winston threw three interceptions for the day and looked like he was ready to be put to bed by the Vikings defense at the end of the game, as the Bucs only converted one of six third down attempts. Minnesota also held Tampa Bay to 26 yards rushing for the game.
Meanwhile, on the Vikings side of the ledger they improved to 2-1 with a very impressive offensive performance led by backup quarterback Case Keenum, who threw for 369 yards and three touchdowns as the Vikings netted 494 yards of total offense for the day. Wide receiver Stefan Diggs was Keenum’s main weapon on Sunday as he caught eight passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns. Also, wide receiver Adam Thielen totaled 98 yards on five receptions. Rookie running back Dalvin Cook was able to “cook” the Buccaneers for 169 yards of total offense himself.
Overall, the Vikings just outplayed Tampa Bay when it counted the most. Hopefully this performance will carry over to next Sunday’s home game at U.S. Bank Stadium as they play host to the Detroit Lions and hope to turn their roar into a purr. The Lions are coming off a very tough loss to the Atlanta Falcons, as they came within one yard of winning on the game’s very last play which was decided by an official review. The Vikings hope to revenge one of the two tough losses to the Lions that they suffered last year in the last minute of both of their games.
