Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees is actually from New Jersey, but he grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and considers himself a Michigander. Detroit Tigers fans gave him a warm welcome during his first at bat on Tuesday Night at Comerica Park in downtown Detroit. Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said Jeter “is as classy a guy and as tough a competitor as I’ve ever seen.”
The Tigers will honor Jeter with a special on-field pre-game ceremony before Game 2 of the three-game series Wednesday night. JeremiahBoyce.com will have more on the game, as well as the ceremony, on Thursday.
