Darlington, SC. On Sunday afternoon, it was time to celebrate Mothers’ Day and run the Goodyear 400, and some drivers were annoyed with the Melon Man. One of the participants was Kyle Larson and his crew chief Cliff Daniels. They were annoyed with Ross Chastain because they didn’t think he was driving fair. At one point, Larson called Chastain “a hack.” Daniels was counting the number of times that Chastain ran into Larson. Don’t forget last week that Larson was bumped by Chastain while leading the race at Kansas. Another driver who wasn’t seeing eye to eye with Chastain was Bubba Wallace, who finished fifth and who promptly uttered a swear word on MRN. When are the drivers going to quit their swearing on the radio and TV? Last week, it was Kyle Busch. I can understand that the drivers are upset, but they don’t need to swear.
William Byron was able to pull away from Kevin Harvick for the win in his throwback paint scheme honoring Jeff Gordon. Next week is the All Star race at North Wilksboro, where the drivers will compete for a million dollars. The following week is Charlotte and the Coca Cola 600, which is the longest test of man and machine.
