On Saturday night, it was time for the Bismarck Bobcats to say good bye to the regular season. But it didn’t look right and they got no help from the Aberdeen Wings. First, I would like to say congratulations to Scott Langer and the entire Wings organization as they made it to the Robertson Cup playoffs, where they will face the Austin Bruins in the first round. As for the Bobcats, it’s the end of another hockey season. Layne Sedevie has missed the playoffs only three times in 13 years. The Bobcats pulled away for a 6-3 win against the Bulls on Saturday. North Iowa was in the second slot most of the year, before they has an epic collapse, losing their last six games of the season to the Bobcats that also had them miss the playoffs. Minot, Aberdeen, St. Cloud and Austin are now in the running for the Central Division Cup. I think the Robertson Cup will land in Aberdeen, because people underestimate the Wings head coach Scott Langer. The Wings have a good opportunity to be champions. As far as the other combatants, only time will tell.
I would like to acknowledge Vertti Jantunen for his play this year. In my mind, he should be the team MVP. I also would like to recognize Linards Lipskis for his outstanding play in the net. With the victory Saturday, it will give Layne Sedevie and his assistant Hunter Laslo something to build on in recruiting for next year.
