On Friday afternoon at the Bismarck Civic Center’s Exhibition Hall, the Demon boys were faced with a win or go home situation, after a heartbreaking loss yesterday. It was a chance to show people why they are the defending champs, and they did just that by playing tough defense and overpowering the Blue Jays. Esley Thorton got the scoring started for the Demons. The Demons got out to a commanding lead of 10-0 before the Blue Jays could even get their bearings. Assistant Coach Darin Mattern could be heard uttering one common theme, “hands up.” BHS out rebounded Jamestown 40-24. The Demons were at 43.8% from downtown, meanwhile the Bluejays were at an ice cold 33.3%. From the charity stripe, Bismarck was at a sizzling 80.0%, and Jamestown was at only 53.3%. That eliminates Jamestown for the season. Tomorrow, the Demons will face either Minot or Williston for the right to go to State.
Also, JeremiahBoyce.com conducted an interview with the legendary coach, Steve Miller. Coach Miller thought of the Demons defensive effort today as being a little bit better than the prior game against Dickinson. When asked if he feels that there’s a target on his back, Miller stated, “There’s no question about that. Other teams seem to work just a little bit harder to get us knocked off.” The Coach told the Demons in the locker room that it was a one game shot. “We can’t worry about tomorrow’s game. We have to get this game first,” he stated, “I think our kids did that. They focused pretty well.”
