Phoenix, AZ. On Sunday afternoon, it was time to find a replacement for Kyle Larson, who was the defending NASCAR champion last year. He had won ten races a year ago. Meanwhile, it came down to Joey Logano, Ross Chastain, Chase Elliott and Christopher Bell. Logano got gone and ran in the top 10 most of the day, which allowed him to become Your Majesty of NASCAR. Chastain and Elliott had a disagreement for real estate on the track, resulting in no more Chase Elliott in the championship. Chastain finished second, and Elliott finished fourth in the points.
There was also a death to report. Coach Joe Gibbs lost a member of his family on Saturday night, his son Coy, who was a co-owner of Joe Gibbs Racing. That made it an extremely difficult day for C. Bell, Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch. Hamlin was seen crying during the prayer before the race, and so, too was Kyle Busch. Busch will move on to Richard Childress Racing next year, and become the driver of the number 8 car. His crew chief will be Randall Burnett.
