Richmond, VA – After the passing of David Poole of the Charlotte Observer, NASCAR gets back to the medicine it needs, which is racing.  It starts with the Lipton Ice Tea 250 tonight, and then the Crown Royal 400 tomorrow night.

Poole, who has been the beat writer for the Observer, died at the age of 50 after a heart attack.  David Poole had answered yours truly’s email.  It’s always tough when you lose someone, especially when it’s someone in your own profession.  Poole was someone who I was going to interview.  He was one of my colleagues.  I listened to him and got all of my NASCAR news from him and Mike Bagley.   I am deeply saddened by David’s passing, and I will miss him.  I looked forward to the Morning Drive with him and Mike.  I was going to bring my readers closer to people like Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Jimmie Johnson.  I was going to see if the Morning Drive could help me out.  This loss really saddens me, because I’ll never forget hearing my name on XM.

He answered my question about Jimmie Johnson.  My condolences go out to his family, The Charlotte Observer, Mike Bagley, and Claire B. Lang.
