Jeremiahboyce.com had a chance to do a phone interview with Scott Miller on Thursday afternoon. Miller explained how “my oh my” was born, at a basketball game when the Thundering Herd were behind and nothing seemed to be going right. It was not meant to be a catch phrase, it just kind of stuck around the Bison Nation. Scott has been the voice of the Bison for 19 years and has had the “my oh my” call for about 12.
Miller commented about the similarities between Chris Klieman and Craig Bohl. Bohl and Klieman are similar coaches, they are “made out of the same fabric.” Craig was kind of like the president of the Bison, while Chris is like a father to most of the players. Scott Miller does not have too much contact with the players, except for Monday Night Bison Feedback, but he studies a lot on the opponent, and on NDSU. Monday Night Bison Feedback can only be heard on KFGO in the Fargo Moorhead area. It’s where Scott sits down with Chris Klieman and takes calls from Bison Nation about their football team.
Scott Miller was nice enough to give jeremiahboyce.com his thoughts on the Bearcats versus the Bison. Sam Houston State has really good speed, according to Miller. Coastal Carolina was also speedy, and it almost resulted in the Bison being eliminated from the championship competition. Had it not been for an interception, we would have been talking to a former champion, instead of the current champion. To win tonight’s game against the Bearcats, the Bison are going to need to focus on several areas of speed for Sam Houston State. A couple of these areas are the wide receiver, LaDarius Brown, and the quarterback, Jared Johnson. The Bison need to put two players on LaDarius so he feels some pressure. The Bison defense is going to have to tackle really well and get at the quarterback, and wrap him up like a Christmas present! The Bison are going up against a team that was 1 and 3 to start the season, but have found a way to come together, so the Bison defense is really going to need to be on their “A” game from start to finish. They are going to have to rely on someone other than Ben LeCompte.
Scott has a Thundering Herd of people who help him during the broadcast, and Jeremy Jorgenson is a big part of the Bison Nation. His responsibilities are not limited to radio, they include marketing and sales for the Bison Radio Network. He manages all of the affiliates, as well as the flagship. He also is in charge of putting together a TV show, called “Bison Football with Chris Klieman.” On the radio, Jeremy does a lot for Scott – he is Scott’s go-to guy. Jeremy has a better view of the action on the field, so he gets a better view of the game. When Jeremy is on the field, Scott is up top with former Bison, and NFL player, Phil Hansen. Hansen provides his knowledge of the game from the player’s perspective. Before the game, Scott Miller allows him to provide the Northern Bag in a Box keys to the game. There are two Kesslers, Kevin and Bridget Kessler. Kevin helps Miller when he cannot see who made the first tackle, while Bridget has the parabolic microphone down on the field. What that does is it makes it sound like you’re on the line of scrimmage with the players.
Fantastic article, Sheriff! I can’t wait to read the next one. Thanks for bring us inside the Bison Nation broadcast for a bit!
