Alex Avila was injured on Tuesday night during the Detroit Tigers’ 4-2 come from behind victory when a Cleveland Indians bat accidentally struck him in the mask, and he is listed day to day. Avila, number 13, is in the final year of his contract with the Detroit Tigers, and had to be lifted for Bryan Holaday. Kevin Rand, the head trainer of the Detroit Tigers, put Avila through a battery of tests at Progressive Field in Cleveland. Holaday will start for the University of Alabama product.

The Tigers have taken the first two games of the series, and tonight have number 35, the Goochland, Virginia native, on the mound. The Indians need these games or else it puts a severe crinkle in the heart of Cleveland baseball, at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario Street.
