With the calendar in the waning moments of January, the Sheriff would like the Bobcats to be in a better position currently than fifth place in the NAHL Central Division, three points behind the fourth place Minot Minotauros. Head Coach Layne Sedevie is trying his best to deliver the Bobcats to the playoffs, but his team is not listening to his message. The evidence is in the pudding. The Bobcats need to get behind their leaders and listen when the coaches have them on the ice.
When I look at the Bobcats, I see a team that needs to get on the right side of the hockey stick, and the only way that the Bobcats are going to make the playoffs is if they start sweeping opponents at home on the weekends. I am not saying that when you go into Austin’s Riverside Arena and come away with a split of the series it is acceptable, but you need to start taking names and numbers of opponents and start putting a body on them. Especially in your home den, where you need to start coming away with four points instead of going 4-4 at home in their last eight games at the VFW Center.
The defense needs to help whoever is in net that night or coaches Sedevie and Roth are going to be headed for an early summer vacation again this season. Keep in mind that the Bobcats are a really young team, playing now without their former team captain Jared Resseguie who has moved on to the University of Denver playing college hockey. But with only 21 games left in the regular season, points are at a premium and it must start happening against the Minnesota Wilderness in Bismarck this weekend. They are currently in third place in the NAHL Central, just four points ahead of the Bobcats.
