Bismarck High School was the only L on the Century Patriots’ ledger this season. And for a while, it looked like Century would succumb again. Enter in Drew Kempel. Kempel is a senior guard for Head Coach Darrin Mattern. With time expiring and the score tied, instead of making the first free throw, he inexplicably missed it. But on free throw number two, he drained it, and that gave the Patriots the win 62-61. BHS was close to upsetting the number one team in the state, but Century hung on for the win. The Demons were trying to keep their players fresh. By that I mean it looked a hockey lineup. They were rotating players in and out. No rest for the weary. The Patriots are three wins away from laying claim to a state championship next week at the Dome in Fargo.
