Recently, this reporter has been irritated with NASCAR President Mike Helton and the sheriff of NASCAR John Darby because they are ruining the sport of NASCAR. Case in point: last week in Pocono, PA. Admittedly, the driver of the number 2 Penske South Miller Lite Dodge and the number 48 Rick Hendrick Lowe’s Chevrolet driven by four time and reigning Nextel Cup champion Jimmie Johnson have had their differences on the track. But I put some of the blame on NASCAR and its sanctioning body. I feel that the “have at it boys” mantra the sanctioning body has imposed is partly to blame for all of the mess we have seen lately. Whatever happened to the days when if a driver did something bad they were automatically sent away to the red trailer and docked points? I’m watching you, NASCAR.
