The San Jose State Spartans were the first team to face the wave of the Tide. Saban was once a Spartan himself, but the Michigan State variety. He then left East Lansing to go for a swim with the Dolphins before returning to the college ranks to guide the Tide to the national title. The Tide were without last year’s Heismann Trophy winner Mark Ingraam. No Ingraam, not problem. The final score was Alabama all over the Spartans 48-3.
