Some drivers have a weekend where they are just really hot, that has been Kyle Busch for the past four out of five weekends, on the Sprint Cup side of things. Whether you loathe or like him, he might steal the spotlight away from Kevin Harvick, and use his broken leg as a spring board to dethrone Harvick, and place himself on top of the mountain. We would have to answer to one of the most spoiled brats in sports, in my opinion, because of his communication to his crew and the other drivers. Busch won a double in Indy, the Circle City. On Saturday he passed Ryan Blaney on his way to a practice kissing of the bricks, and on Sunday, when it really counted. In the end, the story was all about Kyle. He owned the Speedway at 16th and Georgetown. He owned the speedway in Indiana.
As far as Jeff Gordon, he was the talk of the Hoosier State going in, and he was the previous champion. Gordon had a run-in with Clint Boyer, in the garage before the weekend could even get started, and on the track. The series now goes to Pocono, where Martin Truex Jr. was king last year. Can Jeff Gordon rebound from the disappointment at Indy, and get himself in the Chase for the Sprint Cup? Can Kyle Busch continue his remarkable hot streak towards number 30 in the points standings? I am not saying anybody is going to pull over and engrave the trophy with Kyle’s name on it, because he will have to earn it throughout the ten weeks, starting in Chicago, this September.
Kevin earned the trophy and the right to be called “The King of the Sprint Cup” and “The King of the Garage” throughout the ten weeks of the Chase last year. That is why he is the reigning and defending champion of the Sprint Cup this year. Kyle and Adam Stevens are going to have to earn the right to become champions. I like how the drivers have to drive for it now. They used to have to finish in a certain place, then they were the Champion. Nobody hands them the Sprint Cup, the drivers have to drive for ten weeks straight.
