When you are a defending champion, you want to send out a message to the rest of the state. That message says that we are here to defend. For the Firebirds, they found out the hard way without too much fire. Mandan’s Ali Collins and ShanLee Taken Alive were raining down three-balls. The Firebirds, however, could only answer with two point baskets. That’s not what you want to do when you’re playing a team that has won 5 straight titles and a coach that will forever be known as Greg “Jackson” Amundson if he gets a sixth. You better bring your A-game when you play Mandan your opening round, otherwise your basketball dreams will be squashed. Ali “Miller” Collins showed why she could be a up for Ms. Basketball Award next year.
