Larry Bird is considered to be one of the NBA All Time 50 greatest players. However, he is not one the 50 greatest NBA presidents of all time. Paul George did his best Reggie Miller imitation last night against the Minnesota Timberwolves with 37 points, but other teammates of his were nowhere to be found.
As for their 37-37 record, the Pacers have no one to blame but themselves. When you have a nine point lead in the fourth quarter on your home court you should be able to put the other team away for good. I don’t care if you are playing against Karl-Anthony Towns, you should be able to play good solid defense. Larry Bird knows that and so does head coach Nate McMillan. Why would you foul Ricky Rubio on a three point attempt with 3.4 seconds left in the game leading by two points?
Is Larry Bird trying to lay an egg? It sure sounds like it to this reporter. Listening to the Pacers games this season, it seems like they play a good game followed by a bad game, thus explaining the .500 season and a more than likely first round exit from the playoffs where they currently sit with the seventh seed in the Eastern Confernce going into tonight’s game in Memphis. The Pacers are one game ahead of the Miami Heat, two games ahead of the Chicago Bulls, and three games ahead of the Detroit Pistons, with all four teams having eight games remaining as of this afternoon.
