For the Bismarck Bobcats, it was a record setting season that saw the ‘Cats set a North American Hockey League franchise record of 43 wins. After a 43 win season, there are still a couple of honors yet to be claimed, such as a National Championship. One award that you can cross off the Bobcats’ list is one that is given out to the best bench boss in the league annually, the Coach of the Year Award. This award went to Unity, Saskatchewan’s Byron Pool, who turned a Bobcat team into something that leaves opponents shaking in their shoes, after a paltry 2007-08 season that saw the Bobcats languishing in the basement of the Central Division. Now, the Bobcats are 2 wins away from playing for the right to hoist Lord Robertson. This is something that yours truly saw in this coach at the beginning of the season. I knew, going into training camp, that this was Byron’s team. He was like an artist painting a picture that would have any owner smiling.
Congratulations to Coach Pool and Owner Brigl. It speaks volumes of where this organization came from.
