At 5:03 of the first period, the Pittsburgh Penguins got an ominous start, when Brian Rafalski reved up the Detroit offense by cranking the engine with a goal. It was sandwiched around another goal at 8:07 of the second period by Valtteri Filppula. The first Pittsburgh tally of the night came off the stick of Evgeni Malkin at 15:26 of the second. The Conn Smythe Trophy winner for the Detroit Red Wings (Henrik Zetterberg), gave the Red Wings a 2 goal lead at 7:36 of the third. Marian Hossa scored what proved to be the final tally of the season for Pittsburgh at 18:33 of the third, giving the Red Wings a Stanley Cup. The Red Wings showed the heart of a champion making Nicklas Lidstrom the first European captain to hoist the Stanley Cup. This was Detroit’s 11th Stanley Cup.
