Today was a test of patience and also who could control their temper. Mayetta, NJ should be proud of their native son, as he aced the test of patience otherwise known as the Blue Emu Pain Relief 500. The Chesterfield native, Denny Hamlin, performed admirably but was only able to earn a #3 showing. Joey Logano got his brakes way too hot and could only muster a #6 showing on the night. Chase Elliot, who won this race last November, had an excellent showing in the Blue Emu 500, coming in second. He has 211 points and is currently holding down the number 9 position in the NASCAR Cup Series points. This is a great sign for Elliot, who was able to springboard his win in the fall to help him become king and be showered with royalty at Phoenix. For most of the day it looked like the Todd Gordon led team would have something to say about the outcome of the race, but it wasn’t meant to be. Denny Hamlin is your current NASCAR Cup Series points leader with 327. The top 5 points getters are: Hamlin 327, Logano 269, Truex Jr., 247, Larson 242, and Keslowski 232. This is the first of two races in the commonwealth of Virginia, and I expect Hamlin not to be shut out in his own Commonwealth. The native of Chesterfield, VA has one more opportunity to win in his home state.
