Elkhart Lake, WI. The story of the day was a driver who got suspended for failing to comply with NASCAR’s drug policy, and an owner who stood by AJ when times were tough, who also happens to be the current car owner of the NASCAR Sprint Cup champion. Roger was willing to give AJ Allmendinger another chance to race. Stories like this are fun to write! I thought AJ’s career was over, because no one was talking about him in a positive way after he failed the drug test. AJ Allmendinger might get my story of the year but it’s still too early to tell, because I cover so many races. I was very impressed with the little bit that I heard from Saturday’s race. It couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. One win doesn’t make or break your career, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets a Cup ride next year, along with Brad and Joey as his teammates.
