The four previous times came earlier in his career with two different crew chiefs, Robbie Loomis and Steve Letarte. Carl Edwards, who had a 40-point lead, finished the day in the garage. Just when you thought the title defense of Five-Time was over, here he comes again. After most of the national media wrote Jimmie Johnson off early in the season and gave the title to Carl Edwards and made the story Edwards, today we saw the resilience of a five-time champion, Jimmie Johnson. Carl Edwards’ points lead has been severly hacked into, and is now an 8-point lead headed to the Irish Hills of Michigan.
