Indianapolis, Indiana. With everything that has befallen the sports world recently, it was nice to hear a little bit of home yesterday through the eyes of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network. What we heard was a driver that had no worries on Sunday. Takuma Sato had no problem pacing the field. There were several times when it looked like it would be Christmas in Indiana in August because Scott “Reindeer” Dixon looked like he had the right sleigh for the job. But instead it proved to be no worries for Tokyo, Japan native Sato. Mr. Penske made his maiden debut as owner of the track in Speedway, Indiana on Sunday. From what I could see, because Marion County did not allow any Hoosiers to be at their track on Sunday, it looked very desolate. Even though we are used to being treated to a May story, it looked like everyone was following Indiana’s protocol for how the race would be run. It’s always nice when another country wins the 500, and to see how drivers from other countries receive the milk that comes with the pomp and circumstance. As far as the Borg Warner Trophy is concerned, it has a lot of meaning to the City of Indianapolis and the IRL, because when you win the Borg Warner Trophy, you get to put your face on it forever. As far as this Hoosier is concerned, Back Home Again in Indiana will always have a special place in my heart. You can try to get rid of Indiana, but you won’t be successful. Because we live in North Dakota, any time I get to go back home is always emotional for me, and Lafayette still feels like home.
