On Sunday afternoon, it was time for NASCAR to try something new. The Grant Park 220. Denny Hamlin was on the pole for the inaugural street race in Chicago, but little did we know that at the end of the race we would be talking about someone from New Zealand. It was Shane Van Gisbergen who would ultimately claim NASCAR’s first Grant Park 220. Other notes from yesterday. You might remember Darien Grubb from Hendrick Motorsports. He was the crew chief on SVG’s winning car from Trackhouse. SVG was a teammate yesterday of Ross Chastain and Daniel Suarez. It was a rather gloomy day in Chicago, forcing NASCAR teams to use wet weather tires for the race. The race was held on some of Chicago’s major streets, like East Roosevelt, Michigan Avenue and Lake Shore Drive. In my opinion, it was a success, and I wouldn’t be surprised if NASCAR returns to Chicago in the 2024 season.
