According to the Treasure Island Baseball Network, Ed Farmer has passed away. Ed Farmer was Jon Rooney’s color man when he worked for the White Sox. As a little boy living in the Chicago area, I used to like to hear Ed say, “turn on the fireworks” which he would say when a White Sox player hit a home run. As far as Farmer’s replacement, it will be Darrin Jackson, DJ, who used to catch for the White Sox. And as far as on the field goes, after scoring 10 runs yesterday, the White Sox were only allowed two runs today due to making the Central Division champions mad. Mad Max Kepler, who hit the opening pitch on Friday for a home run, was 0 for 5 today, but I was pretty impressed with Mad Max on Friday. It isn’t easy whey you have to stop and start spring training, but according to Fox Sports North’s Marney Gellner, Max said “I’m ready,” and how many times do you get a bomba on the first pitch? The Twins have what they call a bomba squad that caused TV announcer Dick Bremer to say “one bomba and it’s already one nothing Twins.” As for their next victim, the Twins will take on former Cub Dexter Fowler and a Missouri group of birds, who will come chirping into Target Field on Tuesday night for a 7:10 game. That is also the night the Twins will raise last year’s Central Division champion banner. I expect PA announcer Adam Abrams to be pumped up when he introduces the players and last’s year’s AL Manager of the Year Rocco Baldelli.
