A year after finishing with 11 wins and five losses, and making a run through the playoffs before losing to Buffalo, the Colts laid an egg in their own barn in their season opener today. They did not come out like a well oiled machine. They had Jonathan Taylor and Carson Wentz on Sunday, but still that’s no excuse for not producing a win. Whether it was Carson’s inability to move up in the pocket, he seemed rather skittish and did not get good enough protection from his linemen. This is unacceptable. I would give the linemen an F+ and I would give Carson a D- as far as opening day went. CW needs to learn how to let the ball go. He took a lot of sacks today, and the offensive line needs to come together and find team unity. It never seemed like the Colts could get their hooves under them, and when you only score 16 points and you allow 28 points on the defensive side of the ball, you’re going to end up with an 0-1 record as a team.

The Colts need to do much better on both sides of the ball, and with their unity. That’s why they went 11-5 last year. I’m not saying that 0-2 is an insurmountable hole to dig out of, but I see no unity out of this year’s Colts team. I just don’t see it, and they need to find it immediately, or else this team can go 0 for 17.

The NFL has given all teams an extra week of play this year. Instead of 16 weeks there are 17 weeks, and CW needs to get a spine and learn how to trust his linemen. The whole Colts team needs to live and learn when they study film this week, before next week’s game against the Rams. The Rams were also a finalist from last year before bowing out against the Packers at Lambeau Field.
