On Wednesday morning, jeremiahboyce.com sat down with Bobcats starting goalie Kai Weigel, who is no stranger to the capital region. He was part of the goalie duo with Tommy Andersen that was able to capture the Robertson Cup last year. Weigel is a Bismarck native, but attended high school in Morehead, Minnesota, where he was part of the Spuds hockey team. When asked if he had butterflies before a game, he said those are good. When asked about being a Robertson Cup champion, he stated that it was an amazing atmosphere and that it was a culmination of nine months of hard work. The team will prepare themselves to play against the Austin Bruins by watching film, and they will also watch film of the power play, which is very important for goalies. The Bruins were last year’s runner up to the Bobcats in the Central Division. The Bobcats fans are the best fans in junior A hockey, and the VFW Sports Center has the best atmosphere in Junior A hockey, according to Weigel. We would like to wish Kai and the rest of his teammates a good year in their hopes to go back to back.
