On Friday night, the Bismarck Bobcats and Austin Bruins renewed a rivalry that saw the Bobcats laying claim to the Central Division title last year. There was also a banner raising ceremony for the 2025 Robertson Cup champions. Defense was optional, for this game, as the Bruins foiled the Bobcats banner raising home opener by winning 5-4. On Saturday, the Bobcats would respond with a 2-1 win. They also honored former head coach Layne Sedevie, who is now Garrett Roth’s goalie coach. In net for Bismarck on Saturday was Nils Roberts Maurins, who only allowed only one Bruin goal, as compared to Kai Weigel, who allowed five Bruin goals on Friday. Austin looked like a veteran team on Friday night when they came from behind to defeat the champs.
As a result of the Bruins and Bobcats split, both combatants have the same 1-1 record heading into the Showcase in Blaine, Minnesota, aka Layne, Minnesota. There, the Bobcats will face a rematch of last year’s Robertson Cup final, where they will take on the Lone Star Brahmas on Friday at 1 pm in the second of three games. On Wednesday when they play Corpus Christi at 1 pm, they will need to avoid the penalty box, which they did not do a good job of against the Bruins. On Saturday at 12:15, they will go on a bear hunt when they play the Maryland Black Bears.
