This World Series means absolutely nothing to your average midwesterner, but I find it very entertaining because you have two teams that are not from Texas playing in the Rangers new ballpark, Globe Life Ballpark in Arlington. Which also is used to hearing Eric Nadel and Matt Hicks broadcast every game on ESPN 103.3 in Dallas. Instead, you have total opposites for media markets. On one side, you have Charley Steiner and Rick Monday. On the other side, you have Dave Wills and Andy Freed, who I used to hear doing Kane County Cougars baseball in the Chicago market. I find it very interesting how Dave Wills calls a baseball game. He enunciates everything properly, and you can really tell that he’s not irritating like KFAN’s Paul Allen. How can we say this nicely. Dave Wills is not like a speeding freight train coming at you, and he doesn’t have two inappropriate levels like Allen does. One level is sounding too much like a fan, and the other level is being too cross. When your team doesn’t do what you expect them to, you shouldn’t sound like you’re going to jump off the Minneapolis bridge into the Mississippi. Wills is just right, like the Rolls Royce of broadcasters. If I owned a school of broadcasting, Dave and Andy would get an A+, while Paul Allen would deserve an F+. The Series should be interesting, with both teams having the art of pitching.
