Sparta, Kentucky. The usual smokiness is non-existent. The Columbus, Indiana driver’s flame has had water poured on it all season long, perhaps it is because the Indiana native is trying to do too much. If you want to own a team, wait until you are out of the driver’s seat. I am a big Smoke fan. This reporter is in no way saying that Tony is in the twilight of his career, I’m just saying that a driver should never own a team while trying to drive. That’s why Carl Haas is there, to worry about the day-to-day operation of the team. Stewart should listen to his crew chief, Darian Grubb, and not worry about being an owner and a driver. A driver should only have one responsibility. That responsibility should be to his crew and the team. He should leave Carl Haas in charge of the operational aspects and just focus on trying to unseat Jimmie Johnson. Today’s drivers are totally different animals. Once they see an opportunity to see their name on a company or a product, they forget what they were hired to do. The contracts do not say be a driver and an owner, just be a driver.
