Homestead, Florida. Going into Sunday, there were two drivers who could have possibly replaced Jimmy Johnson, number 48, as king. They were Carl Edwards from Columbia, Missouri, and Tony Stewart from Columbus, Indiana. Tony became the first owner and driver since 1992 to win a championship. Stewart was the previous champion before Jimmy Johnson went on a string of five consecutive titles. Today’s race was filled with drama. It all began with #22 Kurt Busch having a blown engine which created problems for Tony Stewart when he ran over part of Busch’s engine. Meanwhile, Carl Edwards was on the pole, when he claimed the number one spot on Saturday. Tony started 15th, but by the end of the night he was the one holding up the Sprint cup. This race was very special for me to watch and cover because Tony and I are from the same state and we both have the heart of a champion.
