Columbus, Ohio. After the naysayers had fun after the Heartbreak Hotel in Champaign, the IU Hoosiers came out ready to make the committee think twice about removing them from the top five. The IU Hoosiers were clicking on all cylinders Sunday afternoon in Columbus. They were led by their two floor generals and a coach who is unflappable. A coach who is almost stoic on the Indiana bench, compared to some of his predecessors before him. What can you say, ladies and gentlemen, while the Illinois loss was heartbreaking, today’s game shows how resilient these IU Hoosiers can be with guys named Vic and Cody, and someone I forget, a freshman from Indianapolis, Kevin (Yogi) Ferrell. The Hoosiers were yet again challenged in today’s game. In my last post, I said how sophomores can make young mistakes. But in Tom Crean’s rotation, the way he runs the bench, you have to do something pretty dramatic not to earn coach Crean’s trust. Even though Robert Montgomery Knight would have punished or worse yet, laid a hand on Cody, and probably smacked him on the butt, those days are over at IU. Cream never does any of that, which is something you need to have when you’re dealing with young kids. You’ve got to have restraint. The thing that was most impressive is how Ohio State was unable to stop the train from leaving the station. When I’m talking about that, I’m talking about Vic Oladipo. Whenever IU needed a big basket, Oladipo and and Cody were right there working together. The committee has no right to vanquish the Hoosiers from the top five, and if they do, I would like to say how many losses do they have? I could see if they had 4, 5, or 6 losses, but not when they only have 3 losses all season. The committee needs to have its head examined if they drop Indiana out of the top five.
