Darlington – Happy Mothers Day to all of the Moms out there.  What is the deal with the defending 3-time champion of NASCAR on the cup side?  Is Chad’s magic wearing off, or are Jimmie’s other competitors better than the #48 team?  The answer is yes.  I know it’s early in the season, but Jimmie Johnson is doing stuff that is un-championship like and not like Jimmie.  Last Saturday night, Chad Knaus couldn’t get Jimmie out of the mess that Jimmie created.  The #48 got caught for speeding on pit road and overheated the brakes, which is not something we have seen over the last 3 years.  Jimmie was 3rd going in to Richmond, and he now finds himself in the uncharacteristic 6th place in the points.  This weekend will be a sign of things to come.

If Jimmie can avoid costly mistakes and come out with a top 10 finish, he has a good shot at winning a 4th consecutive championship.  If not, things don’t look so good for the magic of Chad Knaus and Jimmie Johnson.  Meanwhile, Hendrick teammate 37 year old Jeff Gordon is apparently on the comeback trail.  He has been consistent so far this year and has a good shot at winning at the track they call “The Lady in Black.”  Gordon carries the banner for Hendrick MotorSports and finds himself in 1st place in the points.
