Bismarck, North Dakota. Aaron Nelson now becomes the second goalie in Bobcat history to wear the “C” on his number 29 uniform. Jeremiah Boyce had the chance to sit down with Aaron on Wednesday morning to discuss the “C” on Aaron’s uniform. Nelson follows the former Bobcat and current Husky standout Ryan Faragher, who now goes into his Junior year with Mr. Motzko and the Huskies.
When I sat down with Aaron, we started out talking about his summer and what he did. Aaron said that he went to California to visit his dad and he also had the chance to skate with the Anaheim Ducks, and said “that was pretty cool.” As far as Nelson’s duties with the Bobcats, he found out that head coach Layne wanted to make him captain when they were in the locker room. There will be other captains joining Nelson with those duties. Those captains are Fillip Starzynski, Nate Repensky, and Daniel Kovar. Only Nelson and Fillip will wear the “C”. The assistant captains will be Repensky and Kovar. To become a captain you must lead by example, and you must show your teammates what to do when it comes to stopping pucks. Aaron said “if I let one in I can’t let it bother me, I just have to focus on the next puck.” Nelson also stated that there is a little bit of added pressure, because you have to talk, which is not one of Nelson’s strengths. He is kind of a quiet leader, but he also states that so far he really likes being the captain. Nelson and the rest of the Cats will play the Sioux at the showcase in Blaine MN at the Schwan Super Rink at 7:30 pm on September 18th. For more information you can go to www.bismarckbobcats.com.
