Daytona Beach, Florida. Five laps into Saturday night’s Coke Zero 400, the slipper of the new Bayne of NASCAR was broken, as number 2 Brad Keselowski ended Cinderella’s dream of sweeping Daytona. The 20 year old from Knoxville, Tennesee, who in February earned one of NACAR’s biggest trophies by winning NASCAR’s Super Bowl, wouldn’t capture America’s headlines on this Independence Day weekend. Instead, it would be Unadilla, Georgia’s David Ragan gaining the thrill of victory. In February, Ragan committed a NASCAR no-no by getting an early jump on a restart in the Daytona 500. He went below the yellow line, which you cannot do, allowing NASCAR to get a shot of new blood, allowing Trevor Bayne to win. It was a night filled with carnage, claiming the Columbia, Missouri native and points leader, Carl Edwards, and allowing Bakersfield, California native Kevin Harvick to take over the points lead by 5, headed into the Bluegrass State, for NASCAR’s first ever Sprint Cup race in Kentucky on Saturday.
