With the VFW sitting silent because of COVID, it may feel like summer, and no Robertson Cup playoffs. But soon, you will hear the home team banging their sticks in celebration of a win when they take on their rivals to the North up Highway 83. The Bobcats play the Tauros next Wednesday in VFW Sports Center, otherwise known as championship land. The reference to winning the titles comes because the VFW is starting to look like the Metra in Billings. Adorning the walls of the VFW are two Bourne Cup championship banners and one national title banner, which was earned under the leadership of Byron Pool, who is now at Northern Michigan, and with the help of former Bobcat netminder Ryan Farragher. Ryan shut out the Wenatchee Wild 3-0 on their home ice to earn the Bobcats’ first NAHL title. The Bobcats are one of the oldest franchises in the NAHL and have one of America’s best coaches, Layne Sedevie. Layne used to play for Bliss Littler in Billings, so he knows what a goaltender should have in his repertoire to be a good goalie for the Cats. Coming up on nest week’s Sheriff Patrol will be a visit with Noah’s Ark, Noah Altman, who has had a bit of a rough go in between the pipes. If the Bobcats know what’s good for them, they will call one of the best national anthem singers I have ever heard, Clyde Bauman to get the festivities restarted. Due to the Wednesday game, there will be no coaches’ show 5-6 pm on AM 1270. Instead, you will hear the voice of the Bismarck Bobcats, Andrew Weiss, who will bring you all the hard hitting action between the two rivals.
