Chase Elliot started his rookie endeavor on the pole in Jeff Gordon’s old car number, but, as is the case with most rookies, Elliot did not have a good day on Sunday. He would spend most of the day in the garage, due to taking the famous #24 into the grass at Daytona, putting him out of contention early. His other teammate would not have a good day either. The prohibitive favorite, Dale Earnhardt Jr., went for a spin coming out of turn 4, which put him out of the race. The defending Sprint Cup champion began the season with a 3rd place finish. The story of the day was Toyota. At first you couldn’t tell who won, but by the time Hamlin and Kenseth crossed the line, NASCAR had determined that the Virginian had won. This was the closest Daytona 500 in history. It was won by 1/1000th of a second.

Up next for NASCAR is the Folds of Honor 500. Jeremiah Boyce.com will have an AMS preview before the race. Can Hamlin remain on his hot streak, coming out of Daytona? Or will another driver join him, going to the chase? Find out, as NASCAR heads to Georgia. MRN will have the trucks only, while PRN will have cup, and xfinity for you. You can join Doug Rice and Mark Garrow on PRN, Sunday at 11am.
