After having the points lead for most of the season, Denny Hamlin has a new challenger for NASCAR supremacy. Kyle Larson has wrestled away Denny Hamlin’s advantage and the points lead. Hamlin and Larson are now tied for the lead after the Go Bowling at the Glen was completed today. The points battle should be scintillating, coming down to the season finale. Next week is the yard of Jeremiah in Indianapoils, Indiana. This is one of NASCAR’s Crown Jewels. I grew up about 65 miles to the north of Indianapolis, in West Lafayette, and in 2001, yours truly was at the Brickyard 400, where we saw Jeff Gordon win. I am really excited to see who will springboard himself from a big Indianapolis win to the championship. The number 9 finished number two today. He gave it his all, but came up one position short. Chase Elliott is capable of winning at Indianapolis, but so is Denny Hamlin. The crew chief of the number 9 was suspended for violating NASCAR rules, so the number 9 had an engineer on top of Alan Gustafson’s pit box. Who knows if the number 9 would have gotten back to back wins at Watkins Glen if Gustafson hadn’t been suspended. I do not understand why my driver thinks everything is his fault. Second place is fine with me. Now, as for Indianapolis next week, they will be on the road course instead of the yard of bricks. Either way, it’s still the yard of Jeremiah, because I look forward to Indianapolis every year.
