In the Bobcat den there is a lot of stress, and the head coach gets a lot of publicity because he has two titles. Head coach and general manager. And Layne Sedevie happens to be from Bismarck. It’s not like 1997 when the Bobcats just had a head coach. Today’s NAHL comes with a lot of pressure. I am in no way condoning Sedevie’s behavior on Friday against Steve Howard’s men. He is the head coach of the Austin Bruins. It was shades of Garrett Roth when he was the assistant coach here. In the third period, Sedevie didn’t make a line change. Instead, he threw hockey sticks and water bottles on the ice at the friendly confines of the den which is located at 1200 North Washington. It’s not like he has a calming influence on the bench with him. Sed must have been under a lot of pressure at home by Layna. Sometimes when you have a wife that looks up to you, it can be very daunting to be the head coach for your home town team. You never know if he’s feeling the wrath of Owner Brigl because the team is not performing up to Robertson Cup standards. We know what led up to the outburst. One of Sedevie’s players was given a penalty that led him to go wild. And the ref would not come to the Bobcat bench so Sedevie could have a cordial discharge of words. Sedevie was given an abuse of officials penalty and told he may hit the showers early. If a player abuses a ref, they have the right to give the player who is spewing the unpleasantries the death of a player, which is known as a 10 minute misconduct. In this case, Sedevie and his bench would suffer a bench minor, which also led to the first year assistant, Garrett Hendrickson, who is known to 1270 listeners as Hendy, taking over as acting head coach. Hendy guided the team to their first goal of two points. Sed was ejected and will face possible retribution from the league office. Andrew Weiss, who is the voice of the Bobcats, was telling Sed “bring it on”. He was more animated than I have ever heard the Miami Florida native. Usually Andrew is more mild mannered. Andrew is one of the nicest guys off the ice, and will facilitate my job as staff writer.
